Google Spreadsheet vs EditGrid

Kemarin Google melaunch Google Spreadsheet, dan ternyata sebelum itu sudah ada yang namanya EditGrid. Hari ini aku sama mas Elfan membandingkan keduanya, dan ini beberapa hal yang bisa disimpulkan:

Kehebatan keduanya di banding spreadsheet biasa:

  • Kolaboratif. Jadi inget tugas akhirku mengenai Spreadsheet terdistribusi.
  • Data bisa disimpan di server secara otomatis tiap n detik

Kelemahan keduanya:

  • Sama-sama belum bisa formating sebagian teks dalam sel
  • Memberatkan browser (memakan banyak cpu resource)

Kelebihan Google:

  • Lebih cepat (servernya dia lebih banyak sih)
  • Lebih banyak baris dan kolom (231 baris dan 676 kolom, EditGrid hanya 216 baris dan 256 kolom)
  • Bisa memilih satu baris atau satu kolom
  • Ukuran JavaScript lebih kecil(<150kb) dibanding EditGrid (>700kb)

Kelebihan EditGrid:

  • Lebih user friendly
  • Bisa klik kanan di sel
  • Row otomatis bertambah ketika scroll
  • Jumlah fungsi lebih banyak (memakai engine Gnumeric)
  • Lebih mirip Ms Excel

Semoga keduanya makin berkembang, dan lebih nyaman dipakai, jadi orang yang jarang memakai office application seperti saya bisa lebih nyaman bekerja online tanpa perlu aplikasi tambahan.

    Hello, Thanks so much for your product comparison!

    For your information. EditGrid support full scale sreadsheet with 65536 rows and 256 columns. Try to use your keyboard to navigate to those cell. We design our scrolling to let use focus on the area with data. So, you may not be able to use the scroll to go to area with no data initially.

    By your comparison, we discovered a silly mistake when we are packing the javascript. We’ve packed a new one and now it size is just ~120K, so, it should loads about 5 times faster now. Sorry for your inconvenience.
